Show. Captions were supplied by the photographer.
Sierra Central Hudson #5297 pulls a trainload of appreciative passengers
in SC liveried coaches past a grain elevator amidst the rolling vistas
of Carolina Pacific region scenery.
A Carolina Pacific SD45 waits on the interchange siding while the mainline
tracks bake in the scorching Midwest summer sun. An inexplicable haze of
coal smoke drifts by from time to time coating the tracks with a greasy
film.
NMRA SIG members argue their favourite topic: 'Should Carolina Pacific
mainline trains operate on the left or right track?' Or was it 'should we
use 28 steps or 128 on our handheld controllers?'
A GN F7A-B consist headed by #452 grunts by with a long string of very
dirty boxcars and reefers whilst a freshly cleaned CP train waits on the
interchange track.
GN engineers operating for the first time on CP track under GN's
newly-acquired running rights are surprised by the amount of
super-elevation on the curves. They are also puzzled by the lack of
any apparent vegetation.
GN #32OO hauls a mixed cut of Ian's mainly scratch built freight cars
past cheering crowds.
A half-empty yard attests to 'that kiwi guy with 12 cases of hopper
cars' not being able to come out on the Sunday.
B&O express to Puxatawney cools its heels in the CP freight yard waiting
for repairs to the tracks that will enable 6-axle operation.
Ian 'magic fingers' Venables juggles 11 different trains with one
controller, impressing other exhibitors at the June 2006 Toowoomba show,
who were generally amazed and demoralized by the high quality of the NMRA
SIG group exhibit. In the background Ken Leitch programs his 167th loco
of the day.
Leaving the truss bridge across the River Lethe, GN #32OO hammers the
diamonds at the interchange with 'that other company'.
Opposing trains fly through the main CP yards, alarming several hobos
catching a few zzzs in their respective boxcar hideaways.
GN GP9 661 drifts downgrade while a SC Shinkansen operated by 'Kamikaze
Stevens' thunders by.
Like many of the passengers and bystanders, SC engineers remark on the
unusual shinyblack soil in the CP region.
