John Szalay Collection: Railfan Excursions on the Oahu Railway (Hawaii), 1947-8
These Oahu Railway pictures were taken by John Szalay during railfan excursions in 1947-1948. Shot in black and white, they have been scanned from prints and optimised for web delivery.
According to his son, also John, John Szalay was a member of a model railroad club during that time period up until 1950. His layout had the title 'Termite Railroad' and all his rolling stock was labeled with that logo.
John continues: "My Dad was in the coast Artillery in Hawaii during the war (55th CA) and two of the photos are of the railway guns that were part of Ft Kamahamaha. The Coast Defense Study Group shows that they had 4 155mm railways guns and were designated Battery Kam".
